.1 Introduction
Most definitions of reading refer to the understanding of
meanings of written words and texts that allow people to communicate messages
across time and distance. Making sense of written words (whether printed or
digital) and communicating through shared texts with interpretive, constructive,
and critical thinking is one of the central cognitive tasks that formal
schooling around world tries to confer (Wagner, Venezky, & Street,1999). To
this end, mobile phone has an important role to teach reading skills in a very
simple way within a limited period of time.
1.2 Describing the process
The overall
process of the reading activity is practiced by the help of cell phone through
Bluetooth and the comments and reflections given after the activities ended.
First, the
text was selected from grade 11 student book at the linked website of the MOE.
Then, appropriate activities were prepared from it. Next, the created
activities were transferred to four of our friends’ cell phone through Blue
tooth.
After that,
they were asked to read the text and do the activities that follow them and
made to share their feelings about the usability of this kind of teaching
method. After they had done the activities, they gave the following
suggestions:
1.3 Friends Reactions and Comments
● It is
easily accessible. ●
It is not time bounded, i. e., the teacher can send the activities. ●
It alleviates the scarcity of text book.
● It gives the students pleasure and it makes the process of learning
enjoyable by recording, organizing overtime. ●
Since it is touchable it motivates them to do the activities.
●It provides learning experience
outside the classroom.
As it has
benefits, mobile phone has also its own shortcomings:
It has small size.
● It has limited memory size.
● It has small key board.
● It has limited battery life.

1.4. Our Reflection
Based on the
above comments, our group members’ reflection is as follows: this technology
reduces teachers’ work load.
● It
accelerates the teaching learning process. For example, teachers can cover a
wide range of portion within scheduled time table.
● It motivates teachers use this
technology in advance.
● It
relates theory with practice.
● It introduce the students with new technology. ●
It arouses the students interest towards the lesson. ●It can personalize learners’ environment. ●It helps in boosting the moral of the
learners. On the part of the students we noticed that
this technology made the students love learning language.
